Curriculum vitae

Prof. Dr. Ing. Zdeněk Hanzálek is a worldwide recognized expert in scheduling for computer and manufacturing systems. He is a full professor at CTU and a distinguished researcher at CIIRC CTU. He obtained his Ph.D. in Industrial Informatics from the Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse and his Ph.D. in Control Engineering from CTU. He worked on scheduling of parallel algorithms at LAAS CNRS in Toulouse (1992 to 1997) and on discrete event dynamic systems and discrete optimization at LAG INPG Grenoble (1998 to 2000). From 2000 until 2015, he was the deputy head of the Department of Control Engineering.

Up to now, 23 Ph.D. students successfully defended their dissertations under his supervision or co-supervision. For his teaching of a master's course on Combinatorial Optimization with 160 students per year, he got the CTU FEE dean's price for the best lecturer of the summer term in 2021/22.

He has broad experience in industrial R&D. He founded and chaired Profibus Association of the Czech companies. In 2004 he co-founded Merica company which deals with web-based scheduling tools for industrial production and services. From 2011 to 2014 he founded and led the Mechatronic Department at Porsche Engineering Services in Prague. In 2014 he became an assembly chairman of the newly established CIIRC, and head of the Industrial Informatics Department which earns 30% of its budget from R&D contracts with high-tech industry (Porsche, Skoda, Continental, Volkswagen, EATON, PPL, etc.).

He has published 58 papers in high-impact journals and over 100 papers in international conferences. He coordinated one EU project, several national projects, and two funded by the US Navy. He was the CTU responsible for many EU research projects (e.g., Arrowhead Tools, HERCULES, THERMAC, DEMANES, SESAMO, FRESCOR, ARTIST2 NoE) thus having experience with managing and coordinating international teams of experts. Key solutions of this research were patented or licensed, among others, to Freescale, EATON, and STMicroelectronics. As a founder and PC co-chair of a virtual Worldwide Scheduling Seminar, he is in permanent contact with leading experts in scheduling.
